赤岗村是横荷街道下辖的行政村，位于清城区西南部，村委会驻赤岗。[1]

地名由来[edit]

村名因当地泥土呈赤红色、山岗上少有草木生长而来。据博雅地名网，清代康熙年间，朱姓族人自南雄迁来此地定居，遂以此名之。[1]

沿革[edit]

村的建制多次变动：1948年称赤和乡，1958年为大队，1983年为乡，1987年改为村委会，1989年为管理区，1999年又定为村委会，沿用至今。[1]

村委会辖有29个自然村小组，人口7475人，统计年份未注。辖区内良田6000多亩，村民以水稻种植、渔业和禽畜养殖为主，博雅地名网称其为「鱼米之乡」。[1]
