古寨镇属河源市和平县管辖，在县域东南部，离县城约35千米，东边与龙川县黄石镇相邻，南边和西边与彭寨镇接壤，北边紧挨贝墩镇。省道S339线穿镇而过。镇内设一个社区，另有三联、南兴、丰和、水西、河东、梅华、前程七个行政村。这里是革命老区，九连山中的嶂下，曾是中共和东分区工委和和东行政委员会的驻地。[1][6]

历史沿革[edit]

1937年设古寨乡。新中国成立后，这一带先后划归彭寨区、贝墩区，之后归四联公社管辖。1961年起为公社，1983年又改回乡，1993年起为镇。[2]

抗日战争爆发后的1937年，林镜秋与肖逸臣、陈兰台等人在水西村成立青年同志会，开办夜校，并组建抗日自卫队，林镜秋任古寨人民抗日自卫大队副队长。[6]

地名由来[edit]

关于「古寨」一名，有三种说法：一说古姓人最早在此定居；一说朝廷派来的第一任行政长官姓古；一说上游的三多有一座山，形状像鼓，因而得名。[2]

地理环境[edit]

全镇面积合计65.26平方千米，耕地约633.36公顷，山地7300公顷。[1]各来源的面积并不一致：博雅地名网作约63.4平方千米，百度百科引2017年数据为64.28平方千米。[2][3]鱼潭江流经镇境。[5]

人口[edit]

和平县人民政府网站称，全镇总人口约1.51万人，未注明统计年份。[1]博雅地名网则以第七次全国人口普查的结果为据，给出6600人，2021年6月公布。[2]维基百科作1.3284万人，百度百科引2017年数据为0.88万人。[3][5]各来源的数字相差很大，统计口径也未说明，引用时须注明出处和年份。

百度百科载，2015年全镇工农业总产值为12375万元。[3]

名胜古迹[edit]

嶂下的红色旧址，百度百科称之为古寨「小延安」红色文旅景区，又叫九连小延安。据百度百科，该地曾是和东地区的指挥中心与后方基地，因对解放和平东部、龙川北部有贡献而得名。[4]镇内有三处红色教育场所：「和平县反腐倡廉传统教育基地」「河源市新时代红色文化讲习所」和「和平县青少年红色文化教育基地」。[1]

水西村的岑江田龙渤海堂建于清代，现列为河源市第四批文物保护单位；林镜秋故居和林启连故居也在水西村。[2]嶂下属河东村。[1]
