社区名称取自地形，因座落于群山之间的山坳处而得名。社区于1999年设立，此后沿用至今。[1]

《龙川县细坳镇国土空间总体规划（2021—2035年）》将细坳社区划为镇区，与细坳村一道构成镇中心区的产业服务、旅游服务和综合服务核心。[2]
