湖坑村在陆河县新田镇西北部的高寒山区，是革命老区，大革命时期红二师改编和海陆紫县委、苏维埃政府的驻地之一。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

博雅地名网载，明崇祯年间（1611—1644年）陈、叶、丘、范、万等姓先后迁来居住，清嘉庆二十一年（1816年）又有温姓祖先在此定居。[2] 原属激石溪乡，1962年划分大队时分出湖坑大队，1986年称湖坑村委会，1999年起称湖坑村民委员会。[2]

革命历史[edit]

杨其珊时任海丰总农会副会长，1922年冬来到新田区组织农民，次年春在黄泥潭（即今湖坑村委所辖的同名自然村）主持成立农会。[1] 1927年南昌起义部队陆续抵达当地。[1] 为往激石溪根据地运送物资，村里修建了石桥，即红军桥，其中一座在村委楼对面，另一座在横石自然村。[3] 1931至1934年间国民党军在湖坑、鹿湖设炮台和集中营，烈士陈石妹、陈如等出自该村；陈如曾受邀参加1951年的开国大典。[4]
