沙院社区位于电白区沙院镇的中心地带，辖区管理非农业人口，社区名取自镇名。1987年经电白县人民政府批准命名，沿用至今。2018年9月，它进入「广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位的名单；2024年3月被命名为「2023年广东省卫生村」；2026年1月，又被评为「广东省第二批“百千万工程”典型村」。[1]
