村建在四面都是田垌的山岭上，原名“宝墩村”，后依地形改写为包墩[1]。
自然村与人口[edit]
村辖独山、扫干坡、木头塘、山塘、井埇、上苏、下苏、炉塘、白垌、坡垌、长坡、垌仔、包墩、面前岭、老里塘、林塘、黄竹根17条自然村，964户4768人（未注年份）[1]。2019年9月，村被列为「广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」2018年创建单位[1]。
