历史沿革[edit]

新市于1950年设行政村，次年称新市乡，1959年为生产大队；1983年又称新市乡，1986年为村委会，1989年称管理区，1999年恢复为村民委员会[1]。镇概况载，新市水库在境内[2]。

2019年9月，新市村名列广东省2018年度「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位；另入选湛江市「全市文明村」（2020年度评选，2021年1月公布）[1]。
