椹川南社区属湛江市霞山区东新街道，名称来自辖区内的椹川大道南路[1]。居委会的前身为1989年设立的霞赤一居委会[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

最初是1989年设立的霞赤一居委会，归霞山区新兴街道。1994年，名称改为椹川南居委会；体制改革的2002年，又称社区居委会；到2003年5月划定新辖区，才转入东新街道[1]。

2019年9月，椹川南社区名列「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位名单」[1]。
