解放街道是广东省湛江市霞山区下辖的街道，区划代码440803001，辖文体、民享东、民治、海头港、民享西二、民享西五6个社区，均为主城区[1]。街道因辖区内的主干道解放路得名[1]。霞山一带旧称西营，清末属法国租借的广州湾，后来成为湛江市区的核心地带[2][3]。

历史沿革[edit]

街道的前身是1950年设立的逸仙街道，隶属当时的西营人民政府[1]。其后名称几经反复：1960年霞山人民公社成立，改名解放管理区；1963年起称解放街道；1966年一度恢复管理区之名；1980年起至今定名解放街道[1]。

霞山区的老地名是西营。1899年法国强租广州湾，起初行政中心设在麻斜，后迁到西营，抗战胜利后的1945年，国民政府收回租借地并定名湛江市[2]。

地理环境[edit]

街道辖区面积约1.5平方公里，在霞山区各街道中面积排第10位[1]。据2020年的第七次全国人口普查，常住人口约3.41万人，居霞山区各街道第8位，人口密度约每平方公里22733人[1]。

下辖社区[edit]

6个社区都成立于居委会时期，2002年8月前后重划辖区、改称社区居委会[1]。文体、民治、海头港三个社区的辖区，由原解放、民治、汉口、青岛、逸仙、新发、延安等居委会各取一部分合成[1]。
