民主街道是广东省湛江市赤坎区下辖的街道，位于赤坎区东北部，辖区面积3.6平方千米，下辖6个社区，街道办事处设在民族路58号[1]。2017年末常住人口62972人[1]；第七次全国人口普查（2020年）的结果为7.25万人，在赤坎区各街道中居第2位[2]。街道以辖区内的民主路得名[2]。

历史沿革[edit]

民主街道现辖的地方原是一片海湾。清道光年间，商船可以直接停泊在海边街，即今天的民主路一带[2]。据澎湃新闻的报道，旧时的民主路叫海边街，明清时沿线有10处青石砌成的踏跺式码头；路西是大通街，路东是海滩，货船乘潮经鸭乸港进出[3]。20世纪20年代海泥淤积，港湾东退，码头移往沙湾，原来的港湾渐成滩涂；坡头商人许爱周等人合股承包填海工程，填出的新城区俗称“三民片区”，其中有8条街道取名时纪念孙中山与辛亥革命，名为「民族、民权、民生、民主、大同、大众、幸福、和平」[3]。《湛江日报》的报道则记载，赤坎自1925年起填海造地，修建三民路等[4]。

  • 1949年10月：前身赤坎幸福街道建立[2]。
  • 1954年：改称民主街道[2]。
  • 1960年6月：改设管理区，仍冠民主街道之名[2]。
  • 1968年：另成立民主管理区[2]。
  • 1980年：民主管理区撤销，仍叫民主街道[2]。
  • 1983年：再作民主管理区；1986年：又定为民主街道，沿用至今[2]。

截至2021年10月，街道辖6个社区[1]。

行政区划[edit]

街道下辖三民社区、海萍社区、海棠社区、海北社区、金城社区和兴盛社区。除三民社区取“民族、民主、民生”之意外，海棠、海北、金城三个社区以辖区内的海棠路、海北路、金城大道命名；海萍社区则在南桥河畔，由填海滩建村而来[2]。

经济[edit]

2020年，街道用于卫生健康的支出为88.71万元，用于社会保障和就业的支出为278.89万元[1]。
