埭头是汕头市濠江区广澳街道的社区，也是街道办事处所在地，紧邻汕头保税区。地名取自它位于濠江防潮堤坝的起头，“埭”即堤坝。据说村寨创建于明嘉靖年间。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

相传明嘉靖年间立寨，属潮阳县招收都（今达濠一带），称埭头村。1933年与邻近的白沙头村合为一乡，1946年同大蔚、溪头、三寮、河渡等村并入南衡乡；1949年单独成村，1954年并入广澳乡，1959年同溪头、大蔚、三寮、河渡合编为下五大队，1962年又自成大队。[3]

1984年4月设埭头乡，属达濠区；1986年12月并入广澳乡，称埭头村委会；1989年1月随广澳划归经济特区的管理区，1990年11月第一次设埭头居委会；1992年1月起隶广澳街道，期间一度改回村委会，1999年6月重设居委会；2003年改隶濠江区。[3]

经济[edit]

埭头原以农渔为主，1985年划入特区后开始开发。社区投资3000多万元办工业园区，建成厂房6栋，面积4.58万平方米，进驻化妆品、工艺品、纸品、鞋业、对虾养殖等企业共10家。[2]市委党校、中国广澳开发集团公司等项目设在辖区内。[2]

文化[edit]

社区投资700万元建成埭头小学，学校1998年获南粤“尊师重教”先进单位称号，2001年成为区一级学校。[2]
