社区名来自在居委北面流过的西港。[1]2002年1月调整居委设置时，由原平建居委、华中居委一部分和厦岭居委一部分合并为西港居委会，原属升平区光华街道。[1]

东到厦岭路，西到西港，南到厦岭河，北到光华路，面积0.39平方千米，分4个居民小组。[1]
