地名由来[edit]
村后的山一遇大雨就冲下泥沙，年复一年在山脚淤成沙地，村子最早叫水沙塘；后因“塘”“堂”读音相同，改称新堂。[1][2]
历史沿革[edit]
新堂村建国后属中山县第八区龙泥乡，1961年设生产大队，隶白蕉区坭湾公社，1984年改乡，1986年设村民委员会，归井岸镇。[1]
人口姓氏[edit]
村里的林姓，祖籍河南，清道光年间由新会迁来；杨姓则在1968年从信宜迁入。民国时修筑防洪堤围，形成一座圩加三个村的格局。[2]
经济[edit]
1990年代之前，村民主要种水稻、甘蔗；后来土地大量被征用，村民多进厂或经商。[2]据2024年的数字，村集体收入为1360万元，村里正通过利用闲置宅基地和零碎土地发展物业，也在尝试文旅融合。[2]
荣誉[edit]
新堂村于2020年、2021年、2022年连续进入「淘宝村」名单。[1]
