新作坡在碧岭社区，离街道办事处约7千米，邻近永仁陂、上沙、下沙、沙绩等村。清初，廖姓先祖从兴宁迁来，在河的下游筑土坡蓄水种稻，由此得名，也叫新作坡上围、新作陂。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
2015年底登记的本村户籍者298人，外来者约3000人。村里保存着清代客家围屋南塘世居，2012年列为不可移动文物，还有《廖氏族谱》和中秋祭祖的习俗。[1]
村民廖瑞球（？—2007）曾在东江纵队，后来任解放军团长。传统经济种水稻、甘蔗，20世纪80年代办起「三来一补」企业。[1]
地理环境[edit]
邻近打鼓岭、铜鼓顶、鸡公山，附近有跃进水库和三洲田水库。[1]
