水门村在霞浦县北部，距县城21公里，是水门畲族乡的镇区所在地。全村分为10个自然村、10个村民小组，共437户1562人[1]。村名的沿革据博雅地名网所载，原叫石门坑，因屡次失火而改作水门[2]。

地理环境[edit]

地形为丘陵，水田635亩是耕地973亩的主体。林地超过一万一千亩，内有茶园700余亩、毛竹两千余亩，森林覆盖率达78%[1]。昼夜温差明显、多雾潮湿，土壤偏红黄色，宜种烟叶、蔬菜、稻谷、薯类、西瓜、茶叶和竹子[1]。

居住与新村[edit]

2003年以后，本村成为全乡造福工程新村的集中建设点，利民新村一期与二期、福祥、金山、富民等新村陆续建成，使居住人口增加一千余人[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

1958年，本地先设为生产大队；1984年政社分开后，大队更名为水门村，并组建村民委员会[2]。

地名由来[edit]

早先此地为肖姓聚居，村东一块石门旁有水坑，初称肖坑门；肖姓衰落后称瑞坑门，后被谐音叫成石门坑。屡次失火之后改名水门，取以水制火之意[2]。
