洋背村位于南朱河中段，南举公路穿村而过，全村分为四个自然村。村子最早由杨姓人开基，地名原作杨背。明末吴姓人迁来，之后又有萧姓人从上杭迁入，杨姓人则外迁，地名遂改为洋背。[1]
1956年，洋背属谢屋乡管辖；合作化时成立洋背高级社，公社化后设洋背大队，1984年改制为洋背村委会。[1]
