古竹乡是福建省龙岩市永定区东部的一个乡，东面与南靖县相接，南面与湖坑镇、高头乡毗连，西面紧邻陈东乡，北面与龙潭镇、抚市镇相接。全乡面积，百度百科记为54.58平方千米，博雅地名网则记为约60平方千米。当地素有「土楼之乡」之称。[1][2][4]

地名[edit]

据博雅地名网所载，古竹原名苦竹，因山上盛产苦笋而得名。后人嫌这个名字不雅，改用同音的「古竹」二字。另有一说称，一位朱文公途经此地，见溪水穿村而过，断言此处必苦，于是定名苦竹，后来才写作古竹。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时此地隶属金丰里。民国时改称古竹联保，先后归上金区与第三区管辖，当时高头与古竹合称高竹乡。[3]

1949年后分设古竹乡与高头乡，均属第三区（南溪区）。1957年古竹乡转归十一区（陈东）管辖，高头则归三区（南溪）。1958年建立人民公社时，高头与古竹各设一社；1971年两社合并，称古竹人民公社。1984年恢复古竹乡的名称，当时辖14个村委会。1997年，高东等5个村划出另设高头乡，古竹乡保留其余9个村委会。[3]

人口与经济[edit]

截至2019年末，全乡户籍人口为14778人。[4]

农业以稻谷、烤烟为主，水果中红柿、西瓜和浸水梨较为大宗；1990年代起，乡里以山地综合开发为主，大面积种植红柿。[2]

矿产方面，据称已探明锰、稀土、硫磺、高岭土、铅和锌等矿藏。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

博雅地名网记载全乡有各种土楼760座，未注明统计年份。该网列出的代表性土楼有彭坑土楼群、井头深远楼与塘仔五实楼；据其所述，井头深远楼是永定直径最大的土圆楼，塘仔五实楼则是最封闭的土方楼。[2]

著名人物[edit]

苏启胜（1909～1967），古竹乡人。1928年起从事革命活动，次年编入中国工农红军并加入中国共产党，此后在红军部队担任连政治指导员。[1]
