南中村位于南溪中段，处在南溪土楼群的中部，村内的环极楼为清代圆形土楼。2020年2月入选福建省第三批省级传统村落，2022年10月被认定为福建省第二批乡村治理示范村镇。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村名的来历是：村子位于南溪中部，故称南中。[1]

1949年前属南溪乡南中保。1953至1954年曾设南中乡，1955至1958年又归南溪乡，1958至1960年为南中管理区，1961年分出六个大队，此处设南中大队。[1]

1984年建乡改村制，设湖坑乡南中村委会；1993年改镇，村委会名称未变，属湖坑镇。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

环极楼是圆形土楼，由苏卜臣于清康熙三十二年（1693年）建成。该楼由内外两环组成，内环中心是空旷的院落，不设祠堂。[2][3]

据百度百科，环极楼是福建省第五批省级文物保护单位。[2]
