村名据称来自此地自古多种桃树。[1]

此地先归东游四区水北乡，1951年改入川石十一区的水北乡。1961年，水北公社分出桃源大队，1984年改为现名。[1]

文化[edit]

2017年7月，桃源村经农业部认定为第七批全国一村一品示范村镇，产品是建瓯锥栗。[1]

2020年11月，桃源村上榜「2020年度南平市“绿盈乡村”中级版村庄」名单。[1]
