东元村是富岭镇的行政村，村委会驻东湖。村名由东湖、下竹园两地各取一字而成，「元」与「园」音近，村子又称东园。村子原是溪洲，在溪东筑堤围垦后成湖状，故名东湖。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代属泰宁里，民国属富岭镇，1949年以后先后隶属富岭乡、富岭镇。1958年为富岭公社的东元大队，1984年改为今名。[1]

2021年11月，村里获福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生村」。2021年12月，村里列入南平市「绿盈乡村」中级版村庄名单。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村域下辖东湖、下竹园、塘坞子等5个自然村，编为9个村民小组。[1]
