中南社区位于潭城街道中南部，地处市中心，东起崇阳溪，西到狮子街，南沿麻阳溪，北至人民路水东桥段。[1]

地名与历史沿革[edit]

社区因位于潭城街道中南部而得名。[1] 此地解放前称中南保。之后曾叫红旗街居委会（1950年后），1969年才定名中南街居民委员会。[1]

辖区概况[edit]

社区内有人民路、中山路、西街路、民主北路和狮子街路等主干道，设5个小区和5个居民小组，并有友谊巷、永乐巷、糕条子巷、江滨巷、井巷等小巷。[2]

社区总户数1469户，据博雅地名网所载，未注统计年份。[2]
