村名北坑，缘于此地在平和县的北部，原先隶属平和。[1]

1954年12月，此地改归南靖。公社化时与大岭共用北岭大队之名，1961年分立，1984年设北坑村民委员会。[1]

文化[edit]

据博雅地名网，村中心一带商贸集会活动开展，并设有村部。[1]

2021年11月，福建省爱卫办把北坑村评为「2021年福建省卫生村」。[1]
