海仔村的名字与地势低洼有关：早年防洪堤残缺不全，遇洪水一片汪洋，如同大海；闽南话称“仔”，于是叫海仔。姓江的祖先曾在此定居，取名“海宇”，但群众仍习惯叫“海仔”。[1]
公社化后单独设大队，1984年改为海仔村委会。[1]
