后湖村位于赤湖镇境内，村名来自村中原有的一片湖。村庄在旧称锦湖的赤湖之后，即西面。[1]

2022年10月，村被福建省农业农村厅认定为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」；同年12月，福建省爱国卫生运动委员会将后湖村命名为「2022年福建省卫生村」。2021年12月，村被确定为「2021年度福建省“一村一品”示范村」，主产大葱。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

清代，后湖属十七都赤水保。民国时期，此地是赤水联保所辖的后湖、观洋、赤水三保，联保后来改为赤水乡，1944年赤水乡并入赤湖乡。[2]

新中国初期设后湖乡，1955年12月并入另一个乡；1958年9月成立后湖大队，1984年改为后湖村委会。[2]
