后洋社区位于新塘街道中心区，全境有新旧两条省道穿过。社区原以对面山上的芙蓉得名，后因地近滨海、背后一片汪洋而称后洋，现仍雅称芙蓉。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

杨逸公为开基始祖，他迁来此地时，对面山上的芙蓉开得正盛，村名由此称芙蓉。后因滨海，村背一望无际的海面，便习称后洋。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

后洋历来隶属泉州府晋江，明清属二十六都。1944年归大同乡梧蓉保，1956年属栖梧区后洋乡，1959年为罗山公社后洋大队，1984年设罗山乡后洋村委会，1991年起称罗山镇后洋村委会。2003年11月起改属新塘街道，设社区居委会。[2]
