地名由来[edit]
村名来自民国时期的玉版保与西山保合并。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
民国时期此地是玉版保和西山保，归玉坑乡管辖。1952年改称玉西乡，隶属永春县第二、第三区。1956年办起玉西高级社；1958年改为玉西大队，归锦斗人民公社，1961年起改属坑仔口人民公社。1984年设玉西村委会。[1]
2003年2月，村子被泉州市委、市政府评为「宽裕型文明村」。2006年12月，县委与县政府把它列为第十届文明村，统计期为2004至2005年度。[2]
2019年12月，玉西村被列入国家林业和草原局发布的第二批国家森林乡村。[2][3]
地理环境[edit]
村庄位于县域中部山区，靠近百子山脚，距县城四十余公里。诗元村在东，福地村在西，魁斗村在南，西坪村在北。[1]
省道306线纵贯全村南北，交通便利，村内有坑仔口中学、中心小学和卫生院等公共设施。[2]
经济[edit]
茶叶加工是村里的重要行当，加工厂有200多家，食用菌远销省内外。水稻、铁观音茶等作物也是村中主产。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
村中有坑仔口革命烈士纪念碑，建于1950年，为县级文物保护单位。[4]
