石鼓镇在永春县城西郊，桃溪流经境内，1991年11月由石鼓乡改设为镇。[1] 镇内的魁星岩为3A级景区，岩壁上的摩崖造像是第八批全国重点文物保护单位。[3][4]

历史沿革[edit]

宋至清代，今镇域分属里仁乡始安里与民康乡慕仁里。[1] 民国时期，境内于1936年5月划归第一区，1942年4月起归西安镇管辖。[1] 1949年6月起归第三区，同年11月改归第四区，1952年2月又改归第六区。[1]

1958年改设石鼓乡，当年十月划入城关公社。[1] 1961年另设石鼓公社，1984年又改称石鼓乡。[1] 1991年11月9日，石鼓乡撤销，改设石鼓镇。[1]

地名的来历，据传是桃溪边有一块形如鼓的巨石，溪水冲击时鼓声阵阵，地名由此而来。[1]

镇域与县治的旧址相连。隋开皇九年（589年），南安县西北乡析出一部分设为桃林场，治所在今石鼓镇桃场一带。[7] 五代时此处升为桃源县，闽通文三年（938年）改称永春县，县治设于上场堡，即今桃场一带。[7]

地理环境[edit]

石鼓镇位于县城西郊，省道三郊线与305线贯穿全镇，交通便利。[1] 桃溪自镇域内流过。[1]

全镇面积，博雅地名网载为48.28平方千米，维基百科载为47.6平方千米，两处都未注明年份。[1][5]

人口民族[edit]

2003年，全镇人口为34147人。[5] 镇境是永春主要的侨乡之一。[1]

文化[edit]

2011年4月，环境保护部授予石鼓镇「2011年度国家级生态乡镇」称号。[1] 石鼓镇于2020年12月被福建省爱卫办命名为「福建省卫生乡镇」。[1] 2021年2月，石鼓镇列入「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。[1] 2022年10月，石鼓镇经福建省农业农村厅认定，成为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」。[1]

镇上的小吃有石鼓白鸭汤。[5]

名胜古迹[edit]

魁星岩古称詹岩，位于县城西南五公里的奎峰山麓。寺始建于隋开皇九年（589年），南宋乾道四年由名僧圆觉重建，为重檐悬山式建筑。[2][3] 寺中供奉魁星神像，魁星被视为主管文运的神，读书人尤其敬奉。[2] 它是3A级景区，也是省级风景名胜区。[3]

魁星岩摩崖造像雕于南宋，刻在桃场魁星山的崖壁上。崖壁上浮雕三尊立像，两侧分别为大势至菩萨与观音，中间是阿弥陀佛，三尊都赤足站在莲台上，通高3.4米。[2][4] 2019年10月7日，国务院公布其为第八批全国重点文物保护单位。[4] 2001年1月，它以「魁星岩西方三圣造像」之名被公布为第五批福建省文物保护单位。[6]

县级文物保护单位还有：「永春云居寺」，清代建，在凤美村；「登进堂」，清代建，在卿园村；「颜氏家庙——永思堂」，明代建，在桃场；「抗战时期中共永春支部旧址」，民国时期建，同在桃场。[2]
