社区地处桃城镇的东南郊，离县城大约2公里，有三郊线从中穿过。[1]

社区名称来自旧时一道水圳经过巨石后水花四溅、阳光映出彩虹的景象。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

博雅地名网记载，明朝洪武元年（1368年），花石的先祖从河南光州固始入闽，先后有刘、郑、蔡、陈四姓来此开垦。[3][5]

明代此地隶属永春十三都；民国初属合作乡花石保，1943年属桃源镇花石保。[5]

解放后，此地辗转于第四区与第七区之间，1955年归城关区；1958年为东平公社花石大队，1984年10月称城关镇花石村，1986年归桃城镇，2005年5月24日改为花石社区居委会。[3][5]

地理环境[edit]

社区西北面傍山，东南面临溪，东南部为平原，西北部为山地。[1]

文化[edit]

社区是永春的侨乡之一，华侨主要侨居在马来西亚和新加坡，也有一部分定居香港和台湾。[4]

2021年12月，社区被确定为「福建省第二批高级版绿盈乡村」（乡镇）。[1]

辖区内有一处县级自然保护区，名为泰山岩自然保护区。[4]
