地名由来[edit]
村古称碧石。耕地表层可以耕作，底下埋有草绿色的坚硬石头，可用于砌墙、盖房和打地基，故名碧石。后以「赤」字取代「碧」字，改称赤石，别称碧石。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
设置年代可追溯到元代，明代属积德乡崇信里。建国后归宝山乡，1958年10月起隶西坪人民公社的一个大队；1982年9月划分为赤石村；1984年起由西坪乡的赤石村民委员会管理，1992年8月以后划归西坪镇赤石村委会。[1]
名胜[edit]
西坪土楼的聚斯楼与映宝楼位于赤石、平原一带。聚斯楼为生土夯筑，外墙以巨形溪卵石堆砌，建筑风格保留清中期特点。[3]
荣誉[edit]
2022年1月，本村被认定为「安溪县2020-2021年度文明村镇」。[1]
