下社村是涂寨镇下辖的行政村，村中的谢氏祖厝是清末建造的古建筑。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

村名的来历，据博雅地名网所载：明朝时，谢姓村民自东园的上仑迁来，最初名为谢厝。村庄拓展后，依地势分为上谢与下谢，两名音转为上社与下社。因此处地势较低，称下谢，音转为下社。[1]

明朝时此地隶东路乡。民国三十五年（1946年）划归涂寨乡。解放后到1958年，属飞跃公社的涂寨管区；1961年为涂寨公社的下社大队。1984年设下社村委会，1989年更名为涂寨镇下社村委会。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

谢氏祖厝在上社自然村，建于清末，坐东南朝西北，为两进五开间，两侧带双护厝，屋顶为硬山式。宅院面宽16.8米，纵深18.8米，前埕深5.5米。天井两侧有厢房，护厝上有砖砌小阁楼。[2]
