村原分大路、前潘、长潭仔三个自然村，各取大路与前潘二村之首字，合称大前。[1]
大路之名得自古时的一处道口。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1985年起属南埔乡大前村委会；2000年脱离南埔乡，改设界山镇大前村委会。[2]
教育[edit]
村内设有小学、中学各一所，中学的前身为小学附设的中学。[1]
