梅林之名，因村庄散布如梅花的形状而来。[1]

村内的王公桥工业集中区聚集了多家木业企业，村民中也有人经营餐饮和便民超市等第三产业。[1]

梅林戏在此发源，博雅地名网记其有「天下第一团」之称。[1]

2021年11月，梅林村被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生村」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋元时期，梅林属绥城乡乐城里梅林保。1931年至1934年苏维埃时期，设梅林乡苏维埃政府，归朱口区管辖。1934年起归二区，1940年改属下东乡。1958年，梅林成为生产大队，划归红星公社；1984年9月改设村民委员会，沿用原名。[2]
