赤坑村以驻地村名，村内土壤多为红壤，田块中红色土壤较多，故名「赤坑」。[1]

村内下赤坑、上坪、桥头坑、肖坑、塘边、王坑口、岭许与上赤坑等自然村相连，土壤以紫色土为主，旱地约占耕地的三分之一以上。[2]

2021年11月，赤坑村被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生村」；2024年7月，列入三明市六无达标村（2023年度）名录。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋元至清代，此地属绥城乡乐城里将溪上保。1931年至1934年苏维埃时期，设赤坑乡苏维埃政府，归朱口区管辖。1958年，赤坑成为生产大队，划入红星公社。1984年9月，改为赤坑村民委员会。[2][3]
