溪尾乡位于福建省三明市尤溪县东部偏中，东邻洋中镇和汤川乡，南接台溪乡，西与城关镇相连，西北靠梅仙镇，北侧与西滨镇接壤。[1]境内多山，农业是主导产业，水稻、烟叶、油茶和毛竹并称四项特色农业；溪尾村是全乡的集镇所在地。[2][3]

地名由来[edit]

溪尾之名与半岭、长华两条溪流有关：两溪在溪尾村一带汇合，水流从远处望去不见去向，人们便以为此处已是溪水的尽头。[1][5]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代此地属兴文乡长安里，明清时期归十八都管辖。自1934年尤溪县划区起，溪尾归第三区；1936年改隶第二区辛田乡，并在溪尾大寨设联保办事处，辛田乡于1940年更名为华辛乡。1950年起废除保甲，溪尾与汤川乡并为第四区；1957年撤区并乡后，溪尾单独析置为乡。1958年这里成为火箭人民公社，1959年6月改称溪尾人民公社，同年12月又撤销并入汤川人民公社。到1962年，溪尾公社又与埔宁公社并为一处，仍称溪尾人民公社；1984年，公社体制转为乡制，溪尾自此称乡。[4][1]

产业与民俗[edit]

水稻、烟叶、油茶和毛竹是乡里的四项特色农业，全乡也是全县再生稻生产示范点。[3]

大宁村陈坑底的「稻草龙」流传至今，已列为市级非物质文化遗产。[3]

名胜古迹[edit]

乡内古迹分布在各村：本洋村山巅的三台祖殿，以及莘田村逢春自然村的逢春寨，后者是县级文物保护单位。[6][7]
