社下村位于城郊镇西部，距县城13公里，村子分里外两片。村名取自「沙下」的谐音：村中河流多沙，村子又位于山下，故名。[1]

2021年11月，社下村获福建省爱卫办授予「2021年福建省卫生村」称号；2022年10月，福建省农业农村厅将其列为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时期此地属兴善里，民国时期隶属第一区城南镇的磜角保和俞坊保。建国初属第一区磜角乡，1956年改隶禾口区，仍称磜角乡；1958年归方田乡，同年10月属方田公社，称磜角大队。1961年起隶属巫高公社，1966年并入城关公社，1971年改名社下大队。1984年改设社下村民委员会。[1]

村民以种粮、种烟为主，特种养殖有獭兔、竹鼠等。[1]
