东霞社区是富兴堡街道下辖的社区，属主城区。社区居委会驻地在东霞，社区因此得名。2002年8月13日，原富明居委会与东霞居委会整合为东霞社区。[1][2]

2021年2月，社区上榜「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单；同年4月，被命名为「2021年三明市民主法治示范村（社区）」；同年11月，被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生社区」。[1][2] 2021年，社区还被确定为「三明实践」的现场教学基地，并被评为福建省三八红旗集体；2022年，社区获全省退役军人服务保障体系建设「五有」先进单位称号；2023年，社区离退休干部职工支部委员会获省级「离退休干部'六好'示范党支部」称号。[3]
