塘西村位于社硎乡政府驻地以西约5公里处，村委会设在中心村，下辖两个自然村。[1]

村名的由来是这样的：清末莆田一带动荡，涵江一个塘西村的两兄弟迁来谋生，开山耕种，后来子孙繁衍成村，为纪念祖居地，取名塘西。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立前，村域属兴安乡。1950年归五区，次年改隶八区；1956年划入社硎区，1958年转为社硎公社的一部分。[1]

1962年以前，塘西村与田利村同属仙游县第八区湖桐乡，此后分开独立成村。1984年，塘西村村民委员会成立，隶属社硎乡。[1]

文化[edit]

塘西西国寺在塘西自然村，属一般不可移动文物点。据村情介绍，寺庙建于明朝，已有500年历史，占地1500平方米。[1][2]

2021年11月，塘西村被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生村」；2022年10月，省农业农村厅将其列为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」；2023年11月，被认定为「2023年度莆田市中级版“绿盈乡村”」。[1]
