后面村在郊尾镇北部，东边依傍云顶山，南与东湖、梅塘相接，西面与西山村以界相隔，北面靠着盖尾镇的前连村。地势朝西倾斜，海拔35米。[1]
村名的缘由：村子在云顶山脚，一面有山围绕，新中国成立前道路不便，比较“后”，于是叫后面；也有“后巷”“后度”之称。[1]
2024年1月，村子获评「2023年福建省卫生村」。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
后面村先前与西山合为一村，中华人民共和国成立前归香田里。1950年划入第三区，1951年至1956年6月改隶第四区，1956年起归郊尾区。[1]
1958年起，它与西山一道称“前进”大队，归郊尾公社。1962年政社分设时，独立成后面大队；1984年，村中另设后面村民委员会，归郊尾乡管辖，1985年3月才改隶郊尾镇。[1]
