湄洲镇是福建省莆田市秀屿区下辖的镇，全部位于湄洲岛上，地处湄洲湾口，东面与南面临台湾海峡。[1][2]全镇辖11个行政村，镇人民政府驻寨下村。[1][2][3]湄洲岛是妈祖的升天之地，岛上的湄洲妈祖祖庙是妈祖信俗的祖庙，也是镇内的主要名胜。[4][5]

历史沿革[edit]

宋元时期，湄洲岛隶属崇福乡新安里，明清时期仍属新安里。[2]民国初年，岛屿隶属笏石区。1927年起改由南日岛务局管理，属省直辖；1933年并入莆田县，建湄洲乡。[2]

此后岛上曾隶属十一区与二十一区，并分设忠门、湄洲两个人民公社。1984年，岛上改设乡建制，名为湄洲乡，仍属莆田县；1992年9月撤乡建镇，名称定为湄洲镇；2002年2月归入秀屿区。[2]

地理环境[edit]

镇域位于湄洲湾水域之中，西面隔湄洲湾与泉州市泉港区相望，北面与秀屿区山亭镇隔海相望。[1]

镇内农业以种植红薯、花生和大豆为主。[2]

文化[edit]

湄洲镇先后获得多项荣誉，主要如下。

  • 2010年3月，入选「第一批全国特色景观旅游名镇（村）」。[2]
  • 2011年4月，环境保护部授予湄洲镇「2011年度国家级生态乡镇」称号。[2]
  • 2020年12月，湄洲镇在「2020年福建省森林城镇」名单之列。[2]
  • 2021年2月，列入「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。[2]
  • 2021年12月，被确定为「福建省第二批高级版绿盈乡村（乡镇）」。[2]
  • 2024年2月，被确定为「第二批福建省乡村振兴示范村镇」创建对象。[2]
  • 2025年3月，被命名为「第七届全国文明村镇」。[2]
  • 2025年11月，被认定为「福建省第二批省级乡村振兴示范乡镇」。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

湄洲妈祖祖庙又称湄洲天后宫，位于宫下村东北面的卧牛山一带。[2][5]据载，妈祖林默生于湄洲岛；祖庙的起源可追溯至北宋雍熙四年（987年）。[5]
