赤山村隶属南日镇，村庄原在赤山岛上，岛上土多红色，村名由此而来。此后村民陆续迁出。[1][2]

名称由来[edit]

赤山岛上的土壤大多呈红赤色，故名赤山。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

此地在宋元隶感德乡南匿里，明清隶四区南匿里。民国初归省府直接管辖，民国23年（1934年）属福清县九区，民国24年与25年为南日特种区，民国29年划归莆田县南日镇，民国32年（1943年）隶南日镇五屿村。[2]

新中国成立后，1949年与1950年属十三区王屿村，1954年至1955年属二十四区王屿乡，1958年划入南日公社。1961年为双岛大队，1968年成立赤山大队，1986年改为南日镇村委会。1993年属莆田县南日镇，2002年2月属秀屿区南日镇赤山村。[2][3]

搬迁[edit]

村民分两批搬迁：2015年10月为第一批，2016年10月为第二批，均迁至南日镇三墩村草湖。据博雅地名网，现有部分村民已迁到南日岛上。[3][1]

村况[edit]

村委会设在赤山自然村，距南日镇驻地东北约6.5公里。全村只有1个自然村，计114户、528人，都是汉族，博雅地名网未注年份。村落轮廓呈长方形。[2]

农田30亩，甘薯为主，兼种大小麦、大豆与花生。村中有小学与医疗所各1所，有交通船通大岛，有自备电力照明。[2]
