石东村靠近莆田的东大门，离江口镇区约2公里。福厦公路与福厦铁路穿村而过，离福厦高速涵江入口不足1公里。[1]

村域面积约3.2平方公里，辖6个自然村、26个村民小组。博雅地名网记户籍人口6023人，未注年份。[1]

地名由来[edit]

此地原名石庭，因位于石庭的东半部而改称石东。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立初期隶属七区石庭乡；1956年改属梧塘区公所石东乡；1958年后归涵江人民公社石庭管理区，成为石东大队；1961年转为涵江区石庭公社石东大队；1965年改属江口公社。1984年设江口镇石东村委会，隶属莆田县；2002年起归涵江区江口镇石东村民委员会。[2]

2021年11月，村子获评「2021年福建省卫生村」。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

「上林亭伏击战旧址」位于上林亭自然村。抗战胜利后，国民党福建当局加紧围攻共产党武装，省委为筹集经费，决定截取国民党福建省银行一批调往厦门的现钞，任务交给闽中特委。1946年初，特委组织十三名精干武装人员，成立截钞突击队，同年1月28日在江口上林亭设伏。[3]
