下黄社区位于霞林街道，在木兰溪中游北岸，属城乡结合部。这里原是以种植蔬菜为主的农业村，后随莆田城区南拓，转变为城市社区。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

据传此地因黄姓居民而得名。起初这里有上、下两处黄姓人家聚居，分称上黄村和下黄村，后来只剩下黄村。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1958年，此地成为莆田县城郊人民公社之下的下黄生产大队；到1961年，它仍归城郊人民公社。1980年，它成为莆田市城郊乡的下黄生产大队，直到1994年才称下黄村，此后归下黄村办事处的村委会管理。2002年至2019年4月间，它隶属霞林街道下黄村办事处。2019年5月8日，村委会改为下黄社区居民委员会。[1]

木兰溪经过整治、河道取直之后，此地不再常受水患。随着莆田城区南拓，下黄从建制村变为城市社区，如今是住宅片区和综合商务区所在地。辖区原有6个自然村，分别为梧墩、下度、下黄、黄厝、下埭尾和后墩。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2021年2月，社区入选「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。2024年1月，社区被命名为「2023年福建省卫生社区」。2024年12月，社区上榜「2024年福建省儿童友好社区」名单。[1]
