村前有天然的岙口，水深，可停泊船只数百艘，往来莆田、江阴等地都很方便，村名由此而来。[1]
文化[edit]
村里自组的车鼓队在2001年、2002年两次获福州市铜牌。另有“海族舞”民间文艺队，列入福清市非物质文化遗产。[2]
