乡境位于福建省永泰县东部，濒临大樟溪，东与福清、闽侯相接，离县城约30公里。全乡管辖大樟、莒口、官烈、赤鲤、芋坑、岭头6个行政村，以及2个木帆社。[1][2]

乡名的来历，据博雅地名网，是村民住宅前原有一口池塘。[2]

地理环境[edit]

乡内三条溪流为大樟溪、莒溪与一都溪。土地面积132763亩，此数见于永泰县人民政府网，未注统计年份。[1] 百度百科记面积89.43平方千米，博雅地名网则记约100平方公里，二者都未注年份。[2][4]

乡境属亚热带季风气候，地势偏低，山地比耕地多。[2][4]

历史沿革[edit]

元代此地分别隶属一都、二都、三都。明清两代归丰和乡永安里管辖。民国初年列入东区，1936年划入第四区，1938年分为龙屿、赤鲤两乡，之后并成龙鲤乡。[2]

新中国成立后，本地1950年仍属第四区，1955年改隶葛岭区，1958年归城关人民公社的大樟管理区，1961年转入葛岭人民公社。1978年，葛岭人民公社分出一部分设立塘前人民公社，1984年改设塘前乡。[2][4]

2024年1月，本乡获授「2023年福建省卫生乡镇」称号。[2]

人口民族[edit]

百度百科载2019年末户籍人口5875人。[4] 永泰县人民政府网另载常住人口3500余人，并称户籍人口为5897人，此网页未注统计年份。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

博雅地名网的乡概况列出千江月农业观光园景区，以及莒口龙山景区和官烈景区等；另有元代潮州总管王翰隐居时的读书处。[2][3]

中共福建省委旧址纪念馆、东龙泉寺都在官烈村。前者系1944年中共福建省委机关迁驻之地，2006年开馆；东龙泉寺据百度百科为元末王翰之子王偁所建，明崇祯九年（1636年）毁于火灾，清康熙二十七年（1688年）重新修建。[5][6]
