下宅村原称“厦宅”，因旧时村中有一座大宅院，人称“厦宅”，后为便于书写改称“下宅”。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代属奉政乡安仁里，元代属二十二都的一个村，明代与二十都、二十一都等三个都合编为一个图，清代为怀德乡的一个村，民国时隶属下洋乡下宅保。[2]

解放后的头几年，村子隶属南宅乡，1955年改属东桥区，次年并入东桥乡。1984年东桥乡政府设立后，村子成为其属下的村民委员会；1991年撤乡建镇后，归东桥镇人民政府管辖。[2]

1994年，下宅自然村分出，单独设立村民委员会。[3]

2023年12月，下宅村入选福州市「2023年市级一村一品专业村」名单，产业特色为无花果。[1]
