新桥村因清代村中所建的木桥而得名：村内有古道跨越溪面，清代由当地民众集资修建木桥，村名由此而来。[1]

村境溪流汇聚，所在的溪流是安仁溪的主要支流之一。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代属奉政乡安仁里，明代与二十二都、二十一都等三个都合编为一个图，清代属怀德乡的若干村落，民国时属下洋乡新南保。[2]

1950年代初这里归第二区新桥乡，1955至1957年改隶东桥区；1958年起称火箭公社新桥大队，1959年归东桥公社，此后一直保持稳定。1984年东桥乡人民政府设立，新桥成为其属下的村民委员会，1991年起由东桥镇管辖。[2]
