社区位于祥符街道北端：西侧挨着西塘河，河对岸是104国道，北面与余杭区良渚镇的勾庄相接。社区因境内的新文庙得名，2008年6月30日由新文村撤村建居。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

建国初属杭县南肇和乡，1956年归祥符乡。1958年为三墩公社祥符管理区的东风生产队，1961年起作为祥符公社东风大队，1981年为新文大队，1984年定名新文行政村。[1]

2008年，行政村建制取消，改设新文社区，地名保留至今。[1]
