永光村是龙母镇下辖的行政村。村名的前身是“莲塘埔”：此地常年受旱，村民挖了连片鱼塘蓄水防旱，故称莲塘埔。1952年，这里由互助组转为永光初级农业社，此后沿用“永光”之名。^[1]^[2]

历史沿革[edit]

解放初至1958年冬，永光一带属龙母乡；1958年后为龙母公社的永光大队，1983至1986年改为区公所下的永光乡。1986年设村委会，1989年改称镇属管理区，1999年重设村民委员会。^[1]

魏南金故居在永光西和岭，清代建成，共三进两横，砖瓦结构，建筑面积约1100平方米，至今保存较好，属文化旅游景点。^[3]

2023年5月，广东省爱卫会评定永光村为「2022年广东省卫生村」。^[1]
