地名由来：村名来自下四乡中的大竹乡，村民一直沿用这一叫法。[1]
大竹原为下四乡之一。公社化的1958年，方吉并入大竹，称大竹大队；此后上、下八乡于1973年分设公社，方吉独立出去，粗石坑也单设大队；直到1983年，大竹同粗石坑再合为一乡，叫大竹乡。[1]
荣誉[edit]
- 2017年10月，被省爱国卫生运动机构评为「第一批广东省卫生村」。[1]
