潭村原是大垌村民委员会辖下的一部分，2015年从中划出，另设潭村村民委员会，沿用至今。[1][2]
广东省农业农村厅2020年8月公布首批“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村，潭村凭水稻上榜；2022年9月被认定为2022年湛江市文明村。[1]
